The inspiration behind the Green Screwdriver Mocktail lies in two classic cocktails: the Screwdriver (traditionally made with orange juice) and the Blue Lagoon (featuring blue curacao). By blending these iconic flavors, we’ve created a very simple non-alcoholic masterpiece that’s as visually appealing as it is delicious. Picture yourself poolside, the sun casting a warm glow, and this vibrant mocktail in hand—it truly makes you feel like you’re living the life of luxury!

What I like most about the green screwdriver mocktail is that it takes on many different eye-catching aesthetics, from start to end. Throughout its journey, this is what you’ll expect to see:

  1. Firstly, the blue curaçao being poured over the ice looks reminiscent of the antarctic ocean hitting ice burgs.
  2. As soon as the orange juice hits the blue, a magnificent mix of a blue ocean and sunset will appear – Much like a Sunrise Mocktail.
  3. Once the ingredients start to settle, you’ll begin to notice a vibrant green colour beginning to form in the middle.
  4. Finally, as you stir the ingredients together, the drink will transform into a unique and delicious green concoction!

To begin making this colourful green screwdriver mocktail, all you will need is a few simple ingredients. The only ingredient that might cause some trouble, is the blue curaçao syrup, as you may or may not be able to find it in your local stores. However, it is a fairly common syrup for mocktails and other drinks, so it is easy to find online.

For this recipe, we use Jardin Flavoured Syrup. Likewise, you can find other popular brands such as Monin Blue Curacao, or Torani Blue Curacao. If you’re feeling adventurous, learn how to make your own flavoured syrups!

Before we get started, you will need the following equipment and ingredients:

  • Ice cubes
  • 1 oz blue curacao syrup
  • 1 cup lemon-lime soda
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • Optional toppings/decorations:
    • Orange slices
    • Lemon or lime wedges
    • Maraschino cherries
    • Mint leaves
  • Highball glass (or glass of choice)
  • Stirring spoon
  • Measuring jigger
  • Citrus juicer (if using fresh orange juice)

  1. Begin by selecting a glass. Firstly, the choice of glassware matters—it sets the stage for your mocktail experience. A common choice is a ‘highball glass’, or take a look through this list of the best ‘standout’ glasses for mocktails.
  2. Fill the glass to the top with ice cubes to chill it. The frosty glass not only keeps your drink cool but also enhances its visual appeal. Filling it all the way to the top will also stop the ice from melting and diluting the mocktail.
  1. This step introduces the vibrant blue color to our mocktail. You can watch as the bright blue trickles down the ice cubes!
  2. Pour 1 oz of blue curacao syrup over the ice (feel free to add more or less depending on the size of your glass). You’ll see as the syrup settles at the bottom of the glass, creating a captivating base.

  1. Slowly pour 1 cup of lemon-lime soda into the glass (we used sprite). You’ll notice the effervescence of the soda will naturally mix with the blue curacao, resulting in a mesmerizing gradient effect.

  1. Gently pour 1/3 cup of orange juice over the soda (use more or less depending on the size of the glass). We used a teaspoon to allow the orange juice to gently settle on top of the drink (just slowly pour the orange juice on the teaspoon). The orange juice will float on top, creating a beautiful layered look.
  2. The combination of blue, green, and orange is not only visually appealing but also promises a delightful taste.

  1. Finally, If you’d like, use a stirring spoon to gently mix the drink. This will blend the flavors while maintaining the distinct layers. If you stir enough, this will turn your green screwdriver mocktail into a vibrant green colour!
  2. Now, let’s add some flair:
    • Place an orange slice on the rim of the glass. It’s like a little sun peeking out from behind the blue horizon.
    • Add a lemon or lime wedge for an extra zing. The citrus aroma will awaken your senses.
    • Drop in a maraschino cherry or a sprig of mint. These little touches elevate the mocktail from ordinary to extraordinary.

  • Combine the best of both worlds! Instead of plain lemon-lime soda, use a flavored sparkling water like lemon or lime. The bubbles will tickle your taste buds, and the fruity essence will complement the orange juice beautifully.
  • Add a splash of cranberry juice for a tangy twist. This transforms the green screwdriver mocktail into a vibrant sunset in a glass.
  • Infuse your green screwdriver mocktail with fresh herbs. Muddle a few mint leaves at the bottom of the glass before adding the blue curacao syrup. The minty aroma will enhance the overall experience.
  • Alternatively, try basil leaves for an unexpected herbal note. Basil pairs surprisingly well with citrus flavors.
  • Since this is traditionally a tea-related page, why not try adding some green tea for a non-alcoholic kick and some added health benefits for your hair! Green tea, in particular, will work nicely with these flavors. Just brew a strong tea, let it cool, and combine with the orange juice.
  • Freeze orange juice or blue curacao syrup into ice cubes. These colorful cubes not only chill your mocktail but also add bursts of flavor as they melt.
  • Imagine sipping your mocktail while the ice cubes release their fruity essence—pure bliss!

  • Get creative with your garnish! Instead of placing everything on top, layer the decorations throughout the green screwdriver mocktail.
  • For instance, skewer an orange slice, a maraschino cherry, and a mint leaf on a cocktail pick. Place it vertically in the glass, allowing each layer to peek out. It’s like a mini mocktail within the mocktail!
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of chili powder to the orange juice. The subtle heat will play off the sweetness and citrus, creating a tantalizing balance.
  • If you’re feeling adventurous, rim the glass with a chili-sugar blend. Dip the rim in lemon juice, then in the spicy sugar mixture. Your guests won’t know what hit them—in a good way!
  • Lastly, you can try pouring the green screwdriver mocktail mixture into ice pop molds and freeze. Voilà! You’ve got mocktail popsicles.
  • Serve these at your next pool party or summer gathering. They’re fun, refreshing, and a delightful conversation starter.

The Green Screwdriver Mocktail is as simple as a few ingredients, and can impress your friends with its colours. Not only that, it’s super easy to make, taking only a couple of minutes! As you sip this vibrant concoction, imagine the sun setting over a tropical paradise—the sky painted in hues of blue and orange. The Green Screwdriver Mocktail deserves a special place in your mocktail recipe book!
